Book Reading, Signing and Discussion

Blending fact with fiction, Sacrifice follows the vicissitudes of Moses le Riche’s family and his community in 12th-century England.

Zev the butcher’s son is in love with Arlette, the niece of a wealthy money lender, but she is promised to someone else. On the day of her betrothal the body of a young Christian boy, showing signs of ritual crucifixion, is discovered. The Jewish community are blamed. Christians are pitted against Jews and for Arlette, this has terrible consequences for her marriage, her honour and her life.
